From the Queue vol. 3

So I just sent back two films I watched over the weekend:
From Hell
The Last King of Scotland

I also was able to sneak a few films in via streaming, but most of those were stand up comedy specials and not really worth noting. And so I begin.

From Hell
3 stars

Starring Johnny Depp and Heather Graham, From Hell is the adaptation of the graphic novel by the same name. I wasn't really impressed over with the cinematography, but who really cares about that anyways am I right? Overall, it kept my attention long enough to finish the movie but certainly isn't something that you're missing out on. The 3 stars this film gets on the Netflix scale just means that I was indifferent to it. I didn't love nor did I hate it. I'm sure reading the graphic novel would have been much more satisfying that this film.

The Last King of Scotland
4 Stars

So my roommate loathes anything that Forest Whitaker is in, and up to this point, I wasn't going to challenge him on that. But he is simply phenomenal in this movie. I could have cared less about James McAvoy's character, all I wanted to do was watch what Whitaker's President of Uganda did next. Well deserving of the Oscar for Best Actor, the clear standout in the category that year http://tinyurl.com/3vcn7f3, Whitaker steals the film, which is somewhat predictable, but who really cares in a film like this, based upon actual people. Definitely not for everyone's taste, that's for sure. But is well done and is deserving of a viewing simply to see an Oscar winning performance. Recommended.

A brief addition this week, I've since seen Super 8 and X-Men: First Class in theaters, both being films I enjoyed greatly. X-Men: FC is superior to the XO: Wolverine film, and better than the third installment in the regular series. If you're a fan of JJ Abrams previous work (Cloverfield, Star Trek, Lost, MI3) you'll enjoy Super 8, which executively produced by Spielberg has that modern day Close Encounters of the Third Kind feel.

That's all I've got for movie reviews, albeit they are lacking and opinionated. Have a great week gang!
