I suppose a six month sabbatical was long enough don't you? Okay, well now I'm back and the same as ever. To run down a few things that I've been up to in the last six months.
1. Christmas was spent at Lambeau Field for the Packers vs. Bears game, where my grandfather, father, uncle and I sat in the front row for the contest. My younger brother also was there but we couldn't sneak him into our section so he was demoted to seats on the 50 yard line. Rough, I know. Packers won, and it was probably the best Christmas I could remember. And I'm not a fan of the holidays, none of them really except Halloween.
2. Halloween was spent partially at a friend's wedding. Which was a lovely service and I was thrilled for my close friend. Only drawback to the evening was I was dateless (by choice) and only knew one couple there from work. The wedding didn't have much for dancing, which I'm always a fan of (e.g. see Annual Meeting trip to Milwaukee 2011 edition), and the wedding was dry. Needless to say after dinner I scooted out and donned my outfit. I was Fred from the Scooby Doo gang, accompanied by Velma and Daphne. Our Shaggy fell through and how do you really do Scooby without a ridiculous outfit or bringing a great dane into a bar. We were pretty awesome.
3. Work is going really well, no complaints there, and I won't bore you with details.
4. I'm gearing up for Oscar season, the whole reason I started this blog. Recent viewings of likely nominated films for any category include Young Adult, the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and Beginnings. So keep your eyes peeled for upcoming blogs on the nominees and my coveted thoughts.
5. I've been bad at turning over my Netflix dvds, and been doing more streaming. Thank you Netflix for adding How I Met Your Mother.
6. Lollapalooza was an incredible three days as always. My favorite performance was Foo Fighters. Nixon and I were able to squeeze our way almost to the front row and survivored the crowd while the rain poured for a good part of their set. Most disappointing was CeeLo Green from what I caught, he didn't sound too great. Not the best Lolla year but at this point I just love going so much that I could almost care less who is playing.
7. I was robbed in Chicago. On a weekend trip in October I parked my car on a main avenue which was well lit on a busy Friday night. When I returned to my locked car showing no visible damage my two bags were missing but my friend's briefcase remained among other things in the vehicle. In the bags were my personal computer (all that music gone!), my Oakley seeing glasses, a watch, and some really cool guy t-shirts and clothes. I suppose it's just stuff, but still!
8. I had to buy glasses due my eyeballs developing ulcers on them from my continued and unrelenting use of my contacts. So that was fun. I'm all better now.
9. I did quite poorly in all of my fantasy football leagues. Oops.
10. I've created a list of 25 Things to Do Before I Turn 25. I haven't decided if I'm going to include the entire list on here yet or not. This list was developed over the course of a month, and finalized in early December. I realize I did't give myself an entire year to accomplish everything but who cares. Up to this point I've notched three off of my list. Which I'm exctied about, and I'm working on a few as we speak. Some are purchases like an iPad or Wayfarer sunglasses, and others trying to develop habits such as reading more or visiting my brothers in Ames for dinner once a month. I'm excited about it. So if you have suggestions for good books to read I'm open to hearing them. I just finished Tina Fey's book, BossyPants, which I found entertaining and an easy read. Next up is My Week with Marilyn and then IV by Chuck Klosterman.
I hope you've all gotten that craving satisfied. I will start writing on more subjective topics in the future. Let's be honest, these types of entries are more for me anyways. Happy New Year!
